We are excited to share that construction is underway to convert the historic Roosevelt School in Keene, New Hampshire, into 30 new affordable homes. These homes are one step forward in addressing Keene’s housing shortage.

Five of the 30 homes at the Roosevelt School will be specifically reserved for individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness. By providing stable, affordable housing, the project aims to offer much-needed support to some of the most vulnerable members of the community.

Evernorth is proud to be an investor in this housing. We believe that people in every community deserve a safe space to live and opportunities to thrive.

“A key component of Roosevelt School East is its commitment to helping address homelessness and housing instability in Keene,” according to the news release about the project.

In recent years, the Hundred Nights shelter – an Evernorth Rural Ventures New Markets Tax Credit investment – also in Keene has seen more families experiencing homelessness. The top reason for this is rising housing costs, according to Becky Beaton, Hundred Nights’ executive director.

The repurposing of the Roosevelt School will not only bring new life to a cherished building but also demonstrates the collaboration between public and private partners. Together, partners are working to meet the critical need for affordable housing in the region.

Evernorth looks forward to seeing the progress of this development and its positive impact on the Keene community.
