The Uptown, 60 affordable homes for older adults in Bath, Maine, celebrated its grand opening this month with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Developed by the Szanton Compnay for residents 55 and older, the project involved new construction, adaptive reuse, rehab of existing housing, historic preservation and commercial space.

The buildings, originally constructed in 1897 and designed by renowned Maine architect John Calvin Stevens, were modernized to meet current needs while preserving their historic charm. Four new loft-style apartments were added to a currently vacant portion of one of the buildings, and the historic YMCA gym was restored to its original design, now featuring a fitness center and community room for residents.

Evernorth was proud to collaborate once again with The Szanton Company to bring our shared vision of affordable, high-quality housing to Maine. We are grateful for the support of TD Bank, whose involvement was instrumental in securing the investment needed to make The Uptown a reality.

The Uptown sets a standard for what can be achieved when we work together to address the housing needs of our community’s most vulnerable populations. We look forward to seeing the positive impact these homes will have on both residents and the broader community.
